Stunning everyone, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) elected Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala as its life presidents.
Kalmadi is a former Lok Sabha MP and also spent 10 months in prison on corruption charges related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He was also suspended by the Congress after his arrest.
Chautala was elected IOA president in 2012 but was later removed from the post after IOA was banned by the world Olympic body (IOC) for fielding charge-sheeted candidates in the election. Not just that, he was also stuck in disproportionate assets case in which he was given bail by a Delhi court in 2010.
Reacting to the matter, Sports Minister Vijay Goel said, "I will look into it. It is a serious issue and I'm shocked. It is unacceptable as both Kalmadi and Chautala are facing corruption charges."
