Meet Anjali Lama, the first transgender model from Nepal. She became the first ever transgender model to be selected to walk the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2017 after an audition.
The 32-year-old model was born as Nabin Wabia in Nuwakoti village in Nepal to a farming family. Later, she discovered her identity as a transgender and after meeting the Blue Diamond Society, an LGBT rights organisation in Kathmandu, she came out like Lama.
Rabia changed her name to Anjali Lama in 2005 and five years later, she decided to undergo a sex-change operation, a transition that was challenging both physically and financially. With this, her family cut off ties with her but now, after this selection, they reached her again.
A national magazine in Nepal called Voice of Women featured her in a photo shoot on Kathmandu's transgender community and this gave her a break. And then she decided to pursue a career in fashion field.
