Population of the Hyderabad city is growing rapidly. The city's population which was 70 lakh two years ago, is likely to shoot up to 1 crore (10 milion) shortly.

The hike is due to migration of rural population to the city. Authorities said migration of people from different parts to Hyderabad has increased during the last two years. While the population of city was 77 lakh as per the 2011 census, Greater Hyderabad authorities say that it had now touched 91 lakhs.

Meanwhile, the state's population is also increasing. The population which presently is 8.7 crore, is likely to touch 9 crore, say experts. Election Commissioner H S Brahma expects the number of voters to reach 5.81 crore. The number of voters in the Greater Hyderabad presently is 65 lakhs. It may touch the 70 lakh mark by the ear end. Brahma says it is the aim of the EC to provide voting right to every one.
