There are thorns ahead…. I will remove them
06:32 PM on 24th January, 2013

"I will try to improve the trustworthiness of the political class and the party's image. I will make efforts to cleanse the entire political system. This is the major challenge before me". These are the words Rajnath Singh who was elected President of the BJP again uttered. "I will declare a war against the UPA government. The country is passing through a difficult phase. BJP is the only party which can resolve the problems faced by the country. NDA will surely form government at the centre in 2014" he added.

However, it is noteworthy that Rajnath did not say a single word against corruption.

Media made a hue and cry on the corruption of Nitin Gadkari, his predecessor. Income Tax department lashed its whip at the 'Purti' group of Gadkari and eleven companies which were binamis and suitcase companies of 'Purti'. There are allegations that some of these companies do not even have an address. Likewise, Tehalka's sting operation exposed the corruption of another former president Bangaru Lakshman. People who saw the way Lakshman took one lakh rupees as bribe in the sting operation were stunned. Lakshman was convicted and even went to jail

Court cases and controversies are becoming common for party presidents and working presidents. Corruption is becoming an acceptable menace to most parties. All are sharing the spoils and getting satisfied. Newspapers are writing page after page on the corruption of Jagan. People are discussing the scams of his companies like Jagati, Janani, Bharati Cements and others and their bogus and benami transactions. Cases are being heard against his illegal properties in the CBI court, the high court and the supreme court for days together. His bail petitions are getting rejected again and again. In Haryana, former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son were sentenced to ten years for their corrupt activities. It was proved that the two made plenty of money in teachers recruitment.

Though Mulayam Singh or Amar Singh or Mayavati of UP were not punished for corruption, it was proved several times that they were not above corruption. Though Mayavati faced corruption charges in the Taj Corridor scam, she has been getting solace from the courts. Mulayam Singh was charged of having disproportionate assets and Amar Singh was allegedly innvolved in the Vote for Note CD controversy.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jaya Lalita is also facing disproportionate assets case. While there are so many corruption cases, Rajnath talked about corruption all over, ignoring that 'one' particular instance. He roared against corruption, but can he cleanse it?
