Yes…. It will be Gurkha Land type solution
04:06 PM on 22nd January, 2013
The union government which has been studying the possible repercussions in other states as a fall out of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, is reportedly considering setting up of a Telangana Regional Board, on the lines of the Gurkha Land. To bring effect to the proposal, there would be need to further amend article 371-D of the constitution.
To see the amendment through, two-thirds of the Parliament members should vote for it. It is being pointed out that special status was already given to the 10 districts of Telangana under this article. Reports suggest that the home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde might announce a Gurkha Land type solution to the Telangana tangle without saying either yes or no for the statehood demand. It is learnt that the UPA government was of the view that this solution would help both the centre and the state, as well as establishing peace in both the Seemandhra and Telangana regions.
This solution might be implemented on an experimental basis. The Telangana region would have special status with financial and administrative powers. An elected chief executive would head the new set up. The UPA government is also hoping to dilute the Ghurkha Land demand through the arrangement. It is learnt that the union government was also considering another recommendation of the Sri Krishna committee.
